Wellington Eye Clinical Research Centre
The Wellington Eye Clinical Research Centre was established in 2010.
The Centre has a particular interest in Ophthalmic Research. The Centre was
established by Medical Director Arthur Cummings MD, Consultant Ophthalmic
Surgeon at the Wellington Eye Clinic and Beacon Hospital, Dublin Ireland. The
Centre has collaborated on a wide range of projects, for both academia and
industry, and both for the ophthalmic diagnostic and pharmaceutical sectors. The Clinical Research Centre can assist with all aspects of the Clinical study including but not limited to study design, support for regulatory/ ethics committee applications and study initiation activities prior to study start. The Centre employs two full time study co- ordinators to ensure timely completion of the study and can offer support for study close out activities including preparing of final study reports. Ethics Committee oversight for the Centre is provided by the Beacon Hospital Research Ethics Committee. The Centre liaises with the full clinical team of Optometrists, Nurses and Ophthalmic Technicians at the Wellington Eye Clinic to coordinate the studies. There is a clean room operating theatre on site where laser procedures are performed. Procedures requiring general anaesthesia are performed in a sterile operating theatre at the Beacon Hospital (adjacent to the clinic). All Investigators have operating rights at the Beacon Hospital.
